NetNewsWire for FREE

January 9, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Great! So, I have used Newsgator Online for over a year now. I was never really satisfied with the performance of it nor with its usability. It appeared to be incredibly slow and if you have over 1000 RSS items waiting, the last thing you want is to wait for them to load and go through. Thus, I tried Google Reader a while back but I was somehow confused and switched back to NG.

I had thought about buying a license for NetNewsWire, as I thought that only a desktop-based RSS reader will make me happy. However, the performance issue must not have been annoying enough and so I was reluctant to invest money in a desktop-based tool.

And now? Newsgator announced today that NetNewsWire (Mac), FeedDemon (Windows) and other products would be available for free. Funny enough, I just switched back to Google Reader yesterday after becoming fed up again with NG Online. I think I will run both readers in parallel for now and see which one serves my needs best. Will performance win over functionality or vice versa?
